Augury Spell Skills

The day to day spells of detection, communication and transportation. Once cast, spells of detection must overcome the target's concealment, spells of communication and transportation simply manifest the effect.

Detect Demeanor

Fatigue: 1
Range: 20 ft. Area of affect: individual
Duration: 5 min. Difficulty: Challenging(D3)

Reveals the personal demeanor of one individual to the caster. This should be communicated to the player using terms such as “vile, holy, ambivalent, evil, good”, etcetera. The answer is to be determined by referencing the Ethics and Faith of the individual augured.

Detect Altitude

Reveals the altitude relative to sea level, based on comparison of the local air pressure to a remembered datum.

Detect Life

Fatigue: 1

Reveals the presence of a living being within range. Generally limited to life forms with “intelligence” as this is the aspect of being tied to the etheric.

Detect Etheric

Reveals the the relative intensity etheric force and its general location or direction. The presence of such a force must first be revealed via Etheric Perception.

Detect Metal

Reveals the presence and location of a specified metal within the area of effect.

Detect Secret Door

Fatigue: 1

Reveals the discontinuity in a surface indicating a hidden passage, getting such a door open is another problem.

Detect Tracks

Enables the caster to determine the type of creature that has passed through the visible area provided that visible signs are available. The duration listed indicates the length of time such spoor could be followed provided that conditions of visibility remained relatively good. This spell must be cast at higher difficulty levels pursuant to the existing conditions.

Detect Direction

Reveals to the caster the exact direction of true North.

Detect Distance

Fatigue: 1

Allows the caster to determine either 1) the exact distance traveled in the duration period or 2) the exact, line of sight, distance to any visible marker.

Detect Volume

Allows the caster to determine the volume of any container, room, hole, etceteras that he can view the entire extents of. The expected volume of unopened containers can also be estimated. The presence of a hidden compartment could be revealed by comparing the expected volume of a trunk against the visible interior volume.

Detect Hidden Features

Four separate spell skills, each learned independently, but cast as one spell:

Shifting Walls Reveals whether seemingly solid walls actually move.
Sloping Passages Reveals whether a seemingly level passage actually slopes up or down.
Small Traps Whether a small trap or snare is present
Large Traps Whether a room or corridor is actually a large trap

A second Challenging(D3) test is made to determine whether the trigger mechanism is revealed.

Detect Enemies

Reveals the presence of persons or creatures liable to cause the caster intentional harm. A second Difficult(D4) test will reveal the number of enemies detected. A third Strenuous(D5) test will even reveal the nature of these enemies. Note that each previous test must be successful to allow the castor to attempt the following.

Detect Evil

Reveals the presence of evil purpose in some creature or alternatively the presence of Undead, Dæmons, Spirits and the like, however masked, hidden or disguised.

Detect Good

Duration: 15 min. Difficulty: Challenging(D3)

Reveals honourable, trustworthy or beneficial intentions in any being.

Detect Jewel

Fatigue: 3
Range: personal Area of affect: 10 ft.
Duration: 15 min. Difficulty: Challenging(D3)

Reveals the presence and general location of gems as well as the distinction of precious versus semi-precious

Detect Poison

Fatigue: 2
Range: personal Area of affect: adjacent
Duration: 5 min. Difficulty: Challenging(D3)

Reveals the presence of poison in/on an object or food. May also be cast to determine the hazardousness of gasses, etceteras, within an area of [Magic] ft. of the caster.

Detect Old Tracks

Fatigue: 2
Range: personal Area of affect: visual
Duration: [Magic] hours* Difficulty: special

Enables the caster to determine the type, number, size, and relative time of passing of any creature leaving visible evidence of passage through the visible area. The Difficulty is equal to the Number of Days Since Passage ÷ 3. If rains, etceteras have obscured such tracks the difficulty is equal to the Number of Days Since Passage. The duration listed indicates the length of time such spoor could be followed provided that conditions of visibility remained relatively good.

Detect Observation

Fatigue: 2
Range: personal Area of affect: [Magic] ft.
Duration: 5 min. Difficulty: Challenging(D3)

Reveals whether the caster is being “watched” in some manner. The physical manifestation is generally a “hair standing on end” prickle on the back of the neck. If the watcher has a physical manifestation, the direction to this manifestation can be determined with another successful Challenging(D3) test.

Detect Path

By means of this casting the character will be made able to backtrack his way out of a current lost or disoriented situation. Note that the castor must have previously traveled the path.

Detect Unknown Path

Fatigue: 1 each 5 min.
Range: personal Area of affect: visual
Duration: [Magic] min. Difficulty: Challenging(D3)

Similar to “Detect Path” above, however, this casting allows for egress from situations where the caster has not personally traveled the path previously.

Detect Illusion

Fatigue: 4
Range: personal Area of affect: visual
Duration: [Magic] min. Difficulty: Simple(D3)

Enables the caster to willfully force himself to re-look at a situation or event specifically tuning perceptions to catch falsity (illusion). Success generates an immediate test to penetrate the Illusion (see the Illusion section for procedure) at a two die advantage. Communication of details of the illusion to others would allow them an additional illusion penetration test at a one die advantage.

Fly

Fatigue: 1
Range: touch Area of affect: individual, self
Duration: maintained, 1-6 hrs. Difficulty: Challenging(D3)

The caster is able to fly 250 feet per turn (~25 mph). If extended cross-country flight is involved, range is 25 to 150 miles. Duration is "checked" every hour. Roll 1d6, if the result is less than or equal to the amount of time in hours already passed the spell is over. Normal encumbrance rules apply for carrying additional materials.
