Arterial Bleeding

Damage to the Body inevitably results in some degree of blood loss. In most cases this loss of fluids and the prevention thereof are handled abstractly in the general treatment of wounds. Occasionally a wound is so deep, or so placed, that an artery is severed or burst resulting in continuing uncontrolled bleeding. These injuries will continue to increase in severity, pumping out 1 Body point every 1d6 * 10 seconds. Arterial Bleeding is effectively stopped by successful application of an appropriate Chirurgery skill, the Mend Organ Therapeutic Spell skill or the Heal Critical Wound Miracle.

Field dressing will often stop such bleeding. It is a Chirurgery(1) skill with a D3 Test against Stealth.

Sewing of the wound is indicated for any single Cutting or Piercing injury of greater than 10 points damage or when a field dressing fails. It is a Chirurgery(1) skill with D4 test against Stealth.

Cauterization is indicated for amputation or other single injury of greater than 20 points damage. It is a Chirurgery(3) skill with a D3 test against Stealth (so for the untrained that is a D[3+3=6] test. Failure of a test for cauterization causes 1d6 critical damage.
